honey super placement

I have a medium, 8 frame hive and am getting ready to add a second honey super.  Unfortunately, I do not have any drawn comb frames in this box.  Should I rotate the current honey super to the top and put the new super in its place to encourage the bees to draw comb?  Or just put it on top of the first honey super (yes, I have a queen excluder on)?  Should I take some drawn comb or brood frame from another box in the hive to encourage the bees to draw out this new super? I'm a second year beekeeper and didn't get any extra honey last year. I am hoping to be able to harvest honey this year.

I put a honey super with some drawn comb, but mostly wax foundation under the filled honey super.  They are starting to draw out the comb, but are a little slow . . .  I took off the queen excluder since they don't seem to want to draw comb above it.

I like your idea of pulling frames and drawing them up to a super above, I'm sure folks have had varying experiences and success with different methods.

    Good luck!

I have found that as you come into June/July my bees draw comb slowly. Especially if they have comb elsewhere  where they can place the nectar without expending resources to make wax. If the one medium that’s there is capped and ready for extraction, you might want to harvest that honey and put it back on with a few undrawn frames mixed in.
