Just got back in from checking my hives and to add some cozies before the cold snap kicks in tonight. Was rudely surprised to see that one of my hives is totally empty! :-(
It was active on Saturday with a normal number of bees going in and out. No apparent robbing. The hive was started our from a nuc, but got a late start (Memorial Day) due to the nuc being delayed on arrival. So it missed the spring nectar flow. Therefore was slow to build. Initially had good amount of brood but limited honey stored. Did not harvest any honey from this hive. Did provide ample resources (syrup and patties) throughout the season.
Mit counts were reasonable. 8/30 had mite count of 3 from 1/2 c of bees in sugar shake. Treated with OA dribble. Did sugar shake again on 9/30 and still had 3 mites per 1/2 c of bees. So did another OA dribble. 10/23 added Apivar strips.
Any advice anyone can offer? Can share some photos - just let me know what to look for. Thanks!
